It’s really disheartening to note that many men in India suffer silently and face humiliation in the society on account of breast enlargement or man boobs syndrome. Ramesh (Name changed) was a bubbly teenager who one day noticed that his nipples were slightly protruding. He also observed that his breasts were beginning to look larger than they used to be before. He started avoiding college and remained aloof from his friends. He was no longer going for swimming and basketball practice as before. His parents were obviously disturbed at his behavior. It was a desperate situation at home until one fine day, when he confided in his close friend about the trauma he was undergoing. His parents took the advice of a well wisher, who referred them to an expert doctor in Bangalore for further treatment. The case of Ramesh and several other persons with similar problem is known as Gynecomastia in India.
A Greek word which translates as ‘men having breasts’, the word Gynecomastia in India evokes dread in the minds of men. It is a condition observed widely affecting almost 65 percent of teenage boys which later on revert back to normalcy in one or two years and are not really a cause of great concern.
